Content Requirements

Can you clarify the content requirements? I am particularly confused about which APIs that are required.

Also is it fair to assume we are supposed to utilize the content from the links in the asset file not just showcase the links in the app?

    Hi Jonathan,

To clarify - developers are not required to utilize any/all of the assets in the asset file. The assets are shared so that developers CAN utilize them in the app since the challenge requires that specific insights be addressed. SAMHSA approved the resources in the asset file as meeting the needs of the challenge, so they've been made available to developers for use in developing this app.

You are correct to assume that wherever the 'usage opportunity' for a specific resource states "Full content usage" that the content it refers to can be incorporated into the app, with proper citation of source. If only "link" appears in the 'usage opportunity' column for a specific asset, only a link to the content is allowed to be included in the app.

There is only one API listed in the Asset file - an open source Narcotics Anonymous Meeting finder. If another meeting finder open source API is available, this too could be utilized in the app.

I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for your interest in SAMHSA's Opioid Recovery App Challenge!

in the assets, I notice that some are PDFs and some webpages are not responsive layout. These don't display well on mobile devices.

what are some suggestions around this to make the best user experience?
are we allowed to manipulate the content in any way like reformatting?

    Hi Tom,

Please note the yellow highlighted information in the asset list which states about the ‘Usage Opportunity’ column in the file: “Note on Usage Opportunity: This column refers to the permissions granted for type of use of the resource within the app. "Full content usage" means the content can be incorporated into the app as long as the source is cited. "Link" means that only a link and title for that resource may be incorporated into the app. For any resources belonging to a non-Federal government entity, the "Full content usage" is only applicable for apps developed specifically for this challenge. Permission was granted to SAMHSA by the entity for this specific use.”

The challenge team cannot make recommendations about how to format the content in the app.

    Hi Tom,

Regarding your question about Naloxone, Most recently Naloxone was approved in the nasal spray form by the FDA on 11/15/15 and is used to treat an opioid overdose. It was not included in the asset list. Developers can include additional resources, and as stated in a previous discussion, will need to submit a file with the additional resources that they included.

    Thank you for your participation,

ok so sounds like reformatting content is allowed for "full content usage".

"submit a file with the additional resources" - like in the submission content?

    Hi Tom,

A file with the additional resources could be similar to the asset list file.

    Thank you,
